译文
寂静的秋夜，蟋蟀在尽情鸣叫。天气渐凉，南边邻家发出急促的砧杵声，正在赶紧敲打新织好的布帛，以制寒衣。
亲爱的人啊！与你相隔千里却惹我每晚独自空立想念。
凝望北方只有静静的垂帘，不经不觉月已西沉、长夜过半，却无睡意。
透过窗纱，清幽的露水早已湿漉了天井边的台阶。
问世间，有哪一对恩爱夫妻能承受这年复一年的分隔远离呢？
注释
促织：蟋蟀。
捣衣：中国古代服饰民俗。即妇女把织好的布帛，铺在平滑的砧板上，用木棒敲平，以求柔软熨贴，好裁制衣服。
九重：泛指多层。这里指遥远。
窓：同“窗”。
秋夜鉴赏
南北朝诗人谢朓以山水诗著称，而《秋夜》却是一首闺怨诗，深刻地描写闺中怀人那种难以驱遣的愁思。古人生活落后，却战乱不断。很多新婚男子被远征离家，留下诸多留守妇人愁漫空房，思满织机的悲壮诗篇。
诗中首写就用了“促织”、“捣衣”两种常代表秋寒将至、巧妇勤织、远寄征人的意象，寓情于象，托物起兴，引发长期分居的年青妇女对远方亲人孤苦情思。三四句怀着缠绵思愁，深深情愫，直诉衷情：思君忆君远无期，唯有梦中才能一见，梦醒情尤伤，太伤神，太伤情，无心睡眠，只有“夜夜空伫立”。
诗中虽只写“南邻”、“北窓”、“西户”三个方位名词，却有隐却了“东落”之意，让人体会到独守空房，苦对四壁，孤寂迫人之感。依窗凝望北方，那轻轻的垂帘却阻隔着远在万里的亲人，百般煎熬唯有无穷思忆。
诗中“西户月光入”用景物来喻示时间。“入”字用得细致入微，写出圆月西沉，长夜过半的幽静时刻，而思妇心系夫君，幽怨难眠那种寂寞难奈的心境。
在这“百草凝霜，玉阶露湿”的时节，久伫窗前。突然手触到湿冷的罗衣。啊！是露水侵润进来了。抬头往外一看，透过窗纱，隐隐看到湿漉的台阶闪着亮光。“何知”在这里更有惊觉之意。写出闺中妇人忘情沉思的痴呆形象。更表现出多年征战对夫妻家人的极度伤害。作者借秋夜思妇伤感情怀抒发了作者对征战的深深痛恨及对因征战长期分离的人民深表同情。
谢朓对唐代浪漫诗人李白影响极大。李白的诗中也常见谢朓所写物象。如“长安一片月，万户捣衣声”、“玉阶生白露,夜久侵罗袜”就共用了谢朓《秋夜》中“捣衣”、“阶”、“露”。所以清人王士稹《论诗绝句》说李白“一生低首谢宣城”。

谢朓（464~499年），字玄晖。汉族，陈郡阳夏（今河南太康县）人。南朝齐时著名的山水诗人，出身世家大族。谢朓与谢灵运同族，世称“小谢”。初任竟陵王萧子良功曹、文学，为“竟陵八友”之一。后官宣城太守，终尚书吏部郎，又称谢宣城、谢吏部。东昏侯永元初，遭始安王萧遥光诬陷，下狱死。曾与沈约等共创“永明体”。今存诗二百余首，多描写自然景物，间亦直抒怀抱，诗风清新秀丽，圆美流转，善于发端，时有佳句；又平仄协调，对偶工整，开启唐代律绝之先河。
