每一次奥运庆典的形象核心，都体现为一个不同寻常的标志。这个标志是该届奥运会鲜明的代表和永久的象征。这就是奥运会主办城市创作的奥运会会徽。这就是我们即将揭幕的本届奥运会会徽。
在今后短短的几年中，今晚揭幕的会徽将成为世界上最为引人注目且最为人们熟悉的标识之一。
三年前，40多亿观众收看了悉尼奥运会。明年夏季，奥林匹克运动将回到它的诞生地。届时，全世界的观众将收看在希腊雅典举行的奥运会。
到2008年，将会有更多的人们观看奥运会，体验中国向世界人民呈现的独特的奥运庆典。中国和其具有的文化对外界而言具有极大的吸引力。
你们的新会徽直接明确地传达着在中国人民和文化中世代传承的无与伦比之美和弘大的精神力量。它清楚的表达了北京以人为本的奥运理念，即将奥运会办成一个运动员、艺术家和志愿者的盛会。
在这个会徽上面，我看到了你们“新北京，新奥运”的承诺和实现这一承诺的巨大潜力。它将是中国奥林匹克运动史上的一座里程碑。我们确信，当这个新会徽的形象传遍全世界的时候，当它在北京奥运会上大放异彩的时候，它同时也将成为奥林匹克运动历史上最出色和最有意义的标志之一。
