古人有学书于人者，自以为艺成，辞而去。师曰：“吾有一箧物，不欲付他人，愿托置于某山下。”其人受之，因其封题不甚密，乃启而视之，皆磨穴之砚也，数十枚，方知师夙用者。顿觉羞愧，及反而学，至精其艺。
译文： 古人中有个向别人学习书法的人，自认为书法已经学成，告辞老师而离开。师父说：“我有一箱东西，不想送给别的人，希望你安放在某座山下面。”那个人接受了，因为箱子的封条封得不是很牢，他就打开来看，里面都是磨出洞的砚台，有很多枚，（那个人）才知道老师曾经一直用过的（有多少）。那个人顿时觉得十分惭愧，就返回继续学习，一直学到书法技艺非常精通的地步。
注释： 箧：竹箱子。书：书法。于：向。辞：告别。封题：封条与封条上的字。去：离开。付：托付。置：放。受：接受。乃：于是。启：开启，打开。视：看穴：穿洞，作为动词。属于词类活用。至：直到。夙：从前。反：通“返”，返回。方：正。付：给，交付。之：的。至：到。愿托置于某山下：希望托你放在某山下。至精其艺：直到使他的技艺精通。
