叶下洞庭初，思君万里馀。
译文：相聚的时间总是很短很短，期待的时问总是很长很长。秋天又来了，满江的红叶向洞庭湖悠悠飘去，而你却在迢迢的万里之外。
注释：彩书怨：一名《彩毫怨》。彩书：即帛书，指书信。叶下：秋至之征。初：一作“秋”。馀（）：不尽的，未完的。
露浓香被冷，月落锦屏虚。
译文：秋夜长，相思更长；只有寒露带给凄凉，只有月儿与我为伴。
注释：锦屏：锦绣屏风，这里指天空。
欲奏江南曲，贪封蓟北书。
译文：真想弹奏一曲热闹的江南采莲曲，把它封在信中一封又一封地往蓟北寄去。
注释：江南曲：乐府曲调名。这里代指歌咏游乐之曲。贪：急切。封：这里有“写”的意思。蓟北：蓟州（今河北蓟县）以北一带地方，此泛指东北边地。
书中无别意，惟怅久离居。
译文：信中没有写别的，只是写了长久以来的相思与惆怅。

上官婉儿，复姓上官，小字婉儿，又称上官昭容，陕州陕人，祖籍陇西上邽，唐代女官、诗人、皇妃。因祖父上官仪获罪被杀后随母郑氏配入内庭为婢。十四岁时因聪慧善文为武则天重用，掌管宫中制诰多年，有“巾帼宰相”之名。唐中宗时，封为昭容，权势更盛，在政坛、文坛有着显要地位，从此以皇妃的身份掌管内廷与外朝的政令文告。曾建议扩大书馆，增设学士，在此期间主持风雅，代朝廷品评天下诗文，一时词臣多集其门，《全唐诗》收其遗诗三十二首。710年，临淄王李隆基起兵发动唐隆政变，与韦后同时被杀。
