吾昔评橄榄，不在百果后。其材中栋梁，其实过橙楱。
俗人多未识，至美或莫售。材以远见遗，实以苦为诟。
华堂娱嘉宾，甘脆陈左右。此物万里来，真味宁免陋。
欲观绝伦效，宜与危事遘。江鱼肆潜毒，顷刻辄僵仆。
昔酒发狂醒，千日尚沈瞀。性命如危弦，一绝不可救。
幸能服刀圭，咄嗟反其旧。此亦天下奇，能使夭者寿。

刘敞（1019—1068）北宋史学家、经学家、散文家。字原父，一作原甫，临江新喻荻斜（今属江西樟树）。庆历六年与弟刘攽同科进士，以大理评事通判蔡州，后官至集贤院学士。与梅尧臣、欧阳修交往较多。为人耿直，立朝敢言，为政有绩，出使有功。刘敞学识渊博，欧阳修说他“自六经百氏古今传记，下至天文、地理、卜医、数术、浮图、老庄之说，无所不通；其为文章尤敏赡”，与弟刘攽合称为北宋二刘，著有《公是集》。
