小子尔定孙，来前吾语汝。
尔今既加冠，盍以成人遇。
今尔名以榘，字尔以方叟。
告尔名字义，尔其敬听受。
榘所以为方，是为法度器。
极天下之方，不能外乎是。
在人事而言，不越乎此理。
此理根所性，其本一而已。
散诸事物间，各各有所止。
当然不容易，万殊而一揆。
截截有成法，方正无少陂。
圣人安而行，所欲不逾此。
贤者勉而复，折旋必中矣。
学者思圣贤，於学亦必以。
所择要精明，所执在固緻。
法皆自中定，方非由外至。
如或非礼视，是以不法视。
於视为不方，随物而妄宣。
如或非礼动，是以不法动。
於动为不方，随物而妄往。
惟视方而明，不为非礼倾。
惟听方而聪，不为非礼从。
惟言方而信，不为非礼徇。
惟动方而直，不为非礼适。
一一守吾法，私意无容杂。
寻绝枉尺为，乘戒诡遇合。
直道范驰驱，何行不检押。
其可者则与，不可者必拒。
交游自正方，不随不可去。
有善者则从，不善者必克。
处事自正方，不随不善溺。
随物则为圆，非圆特其偏。
同流而合汙，在方诚有愆。
先方而后圆，於圆乃可全。
既无一不方，斯无一不圆。
动容皆中礼，从心得孔传。
岂但方之熟，实惟圆之安。
圣法万世在，榘尔其勉旃。
称名惕自省，闻字肃反观。
斯义无尔愧，服膺常拳拳。

陈淳，1483年生，1544年逝世（另一种说法是1482—1539），长洲（今江苏苏州）人。字道复，后以字行，更字复甫，号白阳，又号白阳山人。他的有些作品，所画质朴，可以看出受沈周画法的影响， 从他现存作品中即可见风格和用笔，既能放得开，又能收得住。在绘画史上，陈淳与徐渭并称为“白阳、青藤”， 陈淳的绘画当属文人隽雅一路的，即“白阳”一派画家。
